Walk Boulder is a member of America Walks (www.americawalk.org), the national coalition of pedestrian advocacy groups dedicated to promoting walkable communities.

Walk Boulder is devoted to protecting the rights and interests of all pedestrians.

 

Walk Boulder…

• Works to develop, maintain and enhance Boulder’s system of sidewalks,  paths and trails to keep these facilities safe for all kinds of pedestrian activities.
  
• Promotes pedestrian safety through better signage on sidewalks, paths and trails.
  
• Promotes pedestrian activities through walks and events.
  
• Gives annual awards to those in the city and county who have encouraged walking and other pedestrian activities or whose work has improved pedestrian safety.

 

Walk Boulder has been successful through advocacy …

• In keeping Boulder’s sidewalks, paths and trails free of motorized vehicles (with the exception of motorized wheelchairs and maintenance vehicles.) The  Board of Open Space and Mountain Parks, the Board of Parks and Recreation, and the Downtown Management Commission along with more than 2000 local citizens have supported our efforts.
  
• In helping in May 2005 to defeat Colorado Senate Bill 05-239 which defined the motorized Segway as a pedestrian and allowed it open access to all of Colorado’s sidewalks, paths and trails.
  
• In keeping cyclists from gaining unrestricted use of Boulder’s sidewalks. Walk Boulder believes that sidewalks were designed for walking and that  wheels and pedestrians on sidewalks do not mix.  National studies support this position.
